The Amazon River
Rio Amazonas; of South America is the largest river in the world with a total river flow greater than the next ten largest rivers combined.
The Amazon, which has the largest drainage basin in the world, accounts for approximately one-fifth of the world's total river flow.

In its upper stretches the Amazon river is called Apurímac (in Peru) and Solimões (in Brazil).
During the wet season, parts of the Amazon exceed 190 kilometers (120 mi) in width. Because of its vast dimensions, it is sometimes called The River Sea.
At no point is the Amazon crossed by bridges !! Reason being, the bulk of the river flows through tropical rainforest, where there are few roads and even fewer cities, so there is no need for crossings.

The Amazon Rainforest

Also known as Amazonia or Amazon jungle, is a moist broadleaf forest that covers most of the Amazon Basin of South America.
This basin encompasses seven million square kilometers (1.7 billion acres), of which five and a half million square kilometers (1.4 billion acres) are covered by the rainforest.

This region includes territory belonging to nine nations. The majority of the forest is contained within Brazil, with 60% of the rainforest, followed by Peru with 13%, and with minor amounts in Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia, Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana.
The Amazon represents over half of the planet's remaining rainforests !! - and it comprises the largest and most species-rich tract of tropical rainforest in the world.

Itinerary:

Saturday, August 7 - 12.50 pm Delta Airlines Flight to Manaus, Brazil

Sunday, August 8
After breakfast, depart the hotel at 07:30 am by car to the river port Ceasa (20 minutes).
Transfer via speedboat to the village “of Careiro da Varzea” (30 minutes); en route, pass by the Meeting of the Waters, where Negro and Solimões River converge.
We will witness this most incredible display of nature's magnificence, situated only 6 miles away from Manaus. The amazing phenomenon takes place when two distinct bodies of water meet, but don't mix. Here is where they join, without losing their distinct color and characteristics.

After a quick stop at the fruit market, transfer by bus to the Araça River via the Manaus-Porto velho highway (40 minutes on BR319).
Passing by many lakes and creeks we will have a chance to see water lilies with their enormous floating leaves. We'll also see many native villages and communities along the way.
An ideal spot for all types of wild life watching, such as birds, alligators, fishes, snakes and monkeys.
During this trip to the lodge you can be surprised by a creature of nature at any time.

Arrival at Jungle Lodge and check in at 12:00pm. A delicious lunch will be served, including fresh water fish, beef (meat), chicken, salads and exotic fruits from the Amazon (self service).

After lunch, begin our eco-venture with a motorized canoe trip to familiarize ourselves with the area.
Great way to observe abundance of animals such as monkeys, sloths, iguanas, spiders and a wide variety of birds.
